Visiting Central Georgia

Central Georgia with cities like Augusta - famous world-wide for golf, hosting The Masters at the Augusta National Golf Club, offer visitors a diversity of events and activities. Macon, the county seat of Bibb County, is located on the fall line where the hills of the Piedmont plateau meet the flat lands of the coastal plain. Honored to be the birthplace of the Kazoo, Macon is also home of the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. Columbus near the Alabama state-line, is just north of Fort Benning a well-known US Army community and home to the Army Maneuver Center among many other Army units.

The 2010 Georgia Literary Festival will be in Statesboro at Georgia Southern University near the end of October. A great cultural event and opportunity to hear keynote speaker Max Cleland, former US Senator from Georgia. David Bottoms, Georgia's Poet Laureate and many living authors of Georgia's top twenty five books are also on the schedule. The kick-off event at the Avervitt Center for the Arts features the Love at First Bite Reception and discussions on several Halloween themed books.

The Best Western University Inn is conveniently located across from Georgia Southern University. With Southern Hospitality and affordable prices this is a great lodging option. The Best Western Bradford Inn in Swainsboro, northwest of Statesboro is also a great location with easy access to Highway 1 and the James L Gillis Memorial Highway.

Plains, the city made famous as the hometown of President Jimmy Carter, celebrates one of Georgia's most popular events, the Plains Peanut Festival. The 2010 festival in September begins with a 5K race and 1 mile fun-run followed by a wonderful small town parade. The days events continue with exhibits, vendors, arts and crafts. A great festival honoring Plains agricultural and historical heritage. The beautiful Best Western Windsor Hotel in Americus is just east of Plains. A wonderful place to stay, the Best Western Windsor Hotel is a historic hotel, restored from the original built in 1892. It has also been recently renovated, come enjoy the updated amenities and historic charm.

Get into the holiday spirit early with a November concert in Columbus. Mannheim Steamroller celebrates it's twenty-fifth anniversary in 2010. Enjoy the Christmas Music of Mannheim Steamroller November 18th at the RiverCenter in Columbus. The King's Singers join the Columbus Symphony Orchestra early December for Christmas with the King's Singer's, another wonderful holiday event for classical music devotees.

The Hay House in Macon is a National Historic Landmark. Originally a private home, the 18,000 square foot mansion is now open for tours and public events. Holidays are a magical time at the Hay House, where parties and victorian holiday decorations fill the house. Christmas luncheons are served and a Special Sugar Plum Children's Party is held December 12th. Come enjoy a three-course lunch with family and friends while listening to live music amidst the festive decorations – an ideal outing for the holidays.

If you need lodging, the Best Western Riverside Inn in Macon and the Best Western Inn and Suites of Macon are conveniently located for travelers to the city. The Best Western Riverside Inn is located on Interstate 75 north of Macon and the Best Western Inn and Suites is on Highway 80 east of the city.
