Amicalola Falls & Amicalola Falls State Park
Its easy to see why this is one of Georgia's most popular state parks. Amicalola, a Cherokee Indian word meaning tumbling waters, is an appropriate name for these 729-foot falls the tallest east of the Mississippi River. An eight-mile approach trail leads from the park to Springer Mountain, the southern end of the 2,135-mile Appalachian Trail. However, numerous other trails are available for shorter journeys. Dawson County Old Jail
Located just off the square in downtown Dawsonville, this historic building houses the local Welcome Center and Chamber offices. Visitors are welcome to come and tour the old prison cells and former living quarters of he county sheriff. Built in 1881, this building is on the National Register of Historic Places. Etowah Valley Game Preserve
The hunting areas range in size from 40 acres to 110 acres offering you a different hunting experience every time you come. Etowah Valley is committed to the Family Hunt with its special bonding and the continuing of the Traditions of this fine Heritage Sport. Kangaroo Conservation Center
87-acre wildlife conservation center exhibiting the largest collection of kangaroos outside Australia. 1-1/2 hour guided tour includes "KangaRanger" ride thru the Georgia Outback and the "Wild Australia" show with a variety of Aussie animals. New exhibits include the "Aussie Walkabout" hiking trail around animal habitats and the "Billabong Encounter," an immersive exhibit allowing upclose views of Australian plants and animals.
