This National Landmark, built in 1794, is the original home of prominent Cherokee leader, Major Ridge. Artifacts discovered on the grounds behind the house, as well as other materials relating to the removal of the Cherokees from the Georgia area are on display. Rocky Mountain Recreation and Public Fishing Area
Rocky Mountain Recreation and Public Fishing Area is on Oglethorpe Power Corporation land. The area includes two recreation lakes. Largemouth bass and sunfish are the most common game fish species in both lakes. White-tail deer, turkey, and waterfowl frequent the area providing visitors an opportunity to observe wildlife in a natural setting. Rome Area History Museum
The Rome Area History Museum’s permanent exhibits create a walk through time starting with the Native Americans and early settlers, through the founding of Rome, the Civil War, and then the development of Rome’s more contemporary culture, lifeways, and industries. Original documents such as maps, blueprints, photos, correspondence, and business records provide primary sources that paint a picture of Rome’s history.
