Crawford W. Long Museum
Crawford W. Long Museum, off the public square at 28 College St., honors Dr. Long who in 1842 performed the first painless surgery using sulfuric ether as an anesthesia. The three-building museum occupies the original site of Dr. Long's discovery, emphasizing his life and the history of anesthesia. The museum includes an antebellum general store. Stone Mountain Park
This 3,200-acre recreational and historic park surrounding Stone Mountain features Crossroads, a re-creation of an 1870s Southern town where skilled crafts workers and costumed interpreters portray 19th-century daily life. Crossroads also features Tall Tales of the South 4-D Theater where a 3-D film is combined with theatrical effects to create a multi-sensory experience. The park also includes the Sky Hike family adventure course, The Great Barn interactive play areas for children, along with a paddlewheel riverboat, the Skyride to the mountain's top, a scenic railroad, miniature golf, seasonal live entertainment and amphibious sightseeing tours. Miles of nature trails allow visitors to hike up the mountain. The Georgia Museum of Art
The museum was founded in 1945 when Alfred H. Holbrook donated his collection of 100 American paintings to the university. Now the collection contains more than 10,000 works including 19th-century through contemporary American paintings, Italian Renaissance paintings and an extensive collection of prints and drawings by American, European and Oriental masters. Watson Mill Bridge State Park
Watson Mill Bridge State Park is 3 mi. s. on SR 22 at 650 Watson Mill Rd. A 229-foot four-span covered bridge built in 1885 crosses the South Fork River.
